Santa Rosa Requesting Public Feedback on the State of Local Housing

Feb 28, 2022 at 12:00pm

The City of Santa Rosa has kicked off an update of the city’s housing element and is asking for the public’s direct feedback about housing needs of all residents, at all economic levels, while addressing segments of the population with special needs like seniors, persons with disabilities, and veterans. The public can give their feedback now in an online survey and on March 10 during a virtual workshop.

This survey, which takes about 10 minutes to complete, asks the public what they believe is the current state of housing in the city and Sonoma County, their preference for housing types in the city, the barriers for many residents to obtain housing, and the housing needs that should be prioritized in the next eight years.

Results from this survey will be used as part of Santa Rosa Forward, the city’s general plan update effort, which includes an update of the housing element. Residents can now take the survey, which is available in English and Spanish.

The March 10 virtual workshop will be focused on housing. Participation from city residents and stakeholders is vital to ensure that the community's values are articulated in the housing element and that the city’s approach provides the best fit for our community's priorities. The meeting will provide the basics about the housing element, a snapshot of results from the housing survey, and a forum for the public to give feedback on what they would like to see in terms of housing in the city. That meeting will be held on March 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. on Zoom. Register for that meeting here.
